CLS Postdoctoral Fellows

The University of Chicago’s Center for Living Systems, an NSF Physics Frontier Center, invites applications for the 2023-2026 CLS Postdoctoral Fellowship. We seek remarkable early-career researchers, having completed a doctoral degree in Physics or related fields by Fall 2024. This exciting opportunity allows postdoctoral fellows to shape an independent intellectual program that spans across the diverse faculty associated with the center, fostering possible collaborations with other university initiatives in machine learning, mathematical biology, evolving systems, and the origin of life.

This three-year fellowship offers an annual stipend of $72,000, supplemented by a yearly research allowance of $4,000. The goal of the fellowship is to empower an early-career researcher to define their research path, either independently or in close collaboration with members across various departments, including Physics, Biological Sciences, and Molecular Engineering.

Appointment will be at the internal University rank of Postdoctoral Scholar. This position is open to individuals who are less than seven years post attainment of their Ph.D. degree. As a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for Living Systems, you will be part of a thriving intellectual community with no formal teaching obligations, allowing you to fully dedicate yourself to groundbreaking research.

To apply, candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, list of publications and preprints, and description of research interests to be pursued during the fellowship period. In addition, at least three letters of recommendation will be required from faculty members or senior research scientists who are active in the field of study in question. All materials should be submitted to Eileen Sheu (ecs@uchicago.edu). To ensure full consideration, the required materials and the letters of reference must be received by November 1, 2023.
